Fun fact: these cookies / cakes are found in Germany usually just all white or pink and white where they are called „Amerikaner“ which is fun

Same in Poland, I was surprised when my German friend told me it's called the same on the other side of the border <3 (although cake is always white. Topping is usually white as well)

So my little round scoops turned into a lake of cake dough! I baked it at 350F which I thought was the conversion from Celsius. Perhaps the dough needs to be chilled before baking any pointers would be appreciated.

Temperature is correct and the batter doesn’t need refrigerating. It sounds like an issue with the flour used or too much liquid being added. Did you change anything?

You are so kind to help me! I used all purpose, flour, Nestlé, carnation, malted, milk original, and it is a wet day over here, so maybe humidity is a thing?

Sorry for all the extra commas! Is bicarbonate of soda the same as baking soda? I used both baking soda and baking powders.

Yes that’s right bicarbonate of soda is the chemical name and what is used in Britain so it’s a 1/4 tsp of both baking powder and soda. I’d be suprised if the humidity was bad enough that it caused the spreading, I made a bath this week and it’s been raining tons. Much more likely to be something to do with the ingredients used or possibly your oven runs low

Ok, perhaps I’ll turn up the oven. The taste was amazing!! Getting your book today, can’t wait. Congrats!

I’ve never had one of these cookies (even as an American) but is the texture similar to a tea cake? (Do y’all even have those? lol)

I’ve not had an American tea cake (suprisingly in the UK a tea cake is either a bread or a marshmallow based product) but from a Quick Look online I’d say similar but tea cakes look drier, these are definitely cakey

In the ‘half moon’ variety they use a simple frosting flavoured in the same way, half vanilla and half cocoa
