My sister gave me your cookbook ‘One Tin Bakes.’ I have never watched the GBBO and so I had no idea who you were. The Milk Chocolate Caramel Sheet Cake, the Sweet and Salty Rice Crispy Treats, and the Key Lime Pie with Speculoos crust are huge hits. I have not tried any of the buns and breads but I am encouraged to try now. Thanks for the great book!
Edd, my mother and my daughter and I have been loyal watchers of the show and remember you! What a fantastic thing to be able to enjoy television with 3 generations! My mom has recently passed, and I am rewatching the show with tears and a cup of tea. Thank you for your article, for sharing, and revealing!!! I’ll now go to find your cookbook. Cheers!
This show gained such a massive audience because it was so positive and contestants comforted each other. It was such a welcome change from the American-style of backstabbing competition and taunting the other competitors. Ugh!
We’ve been fans for years. We started buying treats each week to eat while we watched the program so that we didn’t have to sit there salivating over the delicious-looking baked goods.
Loved this! It’s a shame your season isn’t available in the US. I was on holiday in Scotland a few years ago and made a routine of watching the first three seasons while I got ready in the mornings since they were on Netflix UK at the time.
As usual, I'm late to the party and have recently become a fan of the show. I'm very glad to hear that your tell all is a very happy stroll down memory lane. Wishing you much luck.
Loved this post, thank you so much for making this content ☺️. I’m a Brit now living in Ontario, Canada so I get all your books and love the GBBO for proper baking inspiration. ‘Making from scratch’ is not as common here, there are shelves of cake ‘mixes’ instead that I’d never seen until we moved here 16 years ago. Funfetti cake mix being perhaps the pinnacle of those! Looking forward to reading more ♥️
Hi Edd! I remember when the show started for you. I’m so proud of you for finding and living your passion! I wish I could watch the original series in the US, the traveling and historical bits made me feel like I was there. Xoxo- Kimi
It is Edd - Roku has all episodes up to the network change. I’ve just watched the entire series - the first Covid episodes radically changed how Paul and Prue interacted with the bakers, particularly Paul. I think it’s the “bubble” effect. Things are a lot more complicated these days that’s for sure.
Paul did take your bread but we needed it for a beauty shot which is how we found out, I've no idea what happened to it after that.
Ha thanks for confirming John, I was trying to remember who told me the story and if I remember it was a camera man or sound guy the next weekend
We’ve seen every season and now, because of your article, we’re going to rewatch Season 1. 😄 Thanks for the insight into the production side!
Turns out, season 1 isn’t available to watch anymore. #sadz
It's available for free on Roku! I just now finished the first series (and googled Edd and ended up here)

Great story telling style Edd, and just enough behind-the-scenes snippets without any backhanded comments needed. A true sign of integrity!

Great behind-the-scenes perspective on a great show. Thanks for writing it, Edd.
I love this so much...thank you for writing.
Well done, wonderful storyline.

If I remember correctly, the first series had the judges present at the technical. Is that correct?

It's on roku channel. I'm watching it right now! I've been hunting for it for years...

Hey Kimi, hope you're well? I have heard the original series is available on Roku but don't know that for sure. x
